Franklin Forum provides intensive communications and media training to hundreds of progressive leaders.
Our trainings take many forms:
- Candidate Training: Our trail training program provides top-notch debate prep and skills training for leaders running for state and federal office.
- Communication & Media training: We partner with allies to host short sessions at conferences or organizational retreats to build basic skills among large groups of communicators and field organizers. We also host longer, more intensive bootcamps for smaller groups of rising and seasoned pundits.
- One-on-One Leader Training: Our trainers also work one-on-one or in small groups with senior organizational leaders to sharpen their media and communications skills.
Franklin Forum PAC’s Trail Training program provides top-notch candidate skills coaching and debate prep. We help campaigns succeed by helping candidates understand how to do their job well, and how to enjoy doing it. Our initial sessions are funded by our donors, at no expense to the campaign, to facilitate critical early engagement. We provide both foundational skills to improve all of a candidate’s public communications, and targeted work in critical areas. We also empower both the candidate and the staff, working with them to create a coaching team that supports continuous improvement beyond the training. And when the candidate is doing well, it’s easier for the whole team to do their jobs well too.
Communications and Media Training:
Franklin Forum regularly provides media and communications training sessions for progressive organizations’ principals, top leaders and staff. Our high-energy and creative approach to the fundamentals of strong and compelling communication helps teams strengthen communications on the airwaves, at the front of a conference room, online, and around the dinner table. Our trainings focus on how and why good communication and presentations work, the physics of persuasion, reaching your audience, and mastering your non-verbal presence (what you say with posture, gesture, space, face, and voice). We have designed these tools to develop progressive communicators’ skills, as well as strengthen their understanding of how they are perceived as individuals, in order to use that perception to the strongest advantage.
Trainings are always highly interactive and collaborative, getting people on their feet and on camera to practice the principles being introduced. Sessions can be short or long; they can be stand-alone events, or can be woven into conference or retreat agendas.
One-on-One Leader Training:
Our one-on-one training for top progressive leaders tailors our best media and communications trainings to a specific executive’s goals and challenges. These intimate and highly productive sessions focus on fine-tuning an individual’s messaging strategy, practicing on-camera interviews or keynote presentations, and offering feedback and suggestions for continued skill development. These sessions are typically either for a half-day or a series of shorter sessions in quick succession.
Like the larger trainings, one-on-one sessions also cover the basics of how and why good communication and presentations work, the physics of persuasion, connecting with audiences, and understanding nonverbal presence (i.e., posture, gesture, space, face, and voice). These tools are designed to develop progressive communicators’ skills, as well as strengthen their understanding of how they are perceived as individuals, in order to increase their effectiveness as advocates for their organizations.
